We are a national charity based in London that supports LGBTQI+ communities struggling with a chemsex addiction. Our primary focus is to help our service users regain control of their lives, improve their overall well-being, reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections, raise awareness about their rights, and minimise the consequences of chemsex-related issues. To achieve these goals, we provide a range of activities and services. We offer confidential information, advice, and one-on-one support to LGBTQI+ people, addressing a wide range of issues including emotional well-being, depression, anxiety, social isolation, and physical, sexual, and mental health concerns. We facilitate interventions specific to a chemsex addiction and related behaviours. Our services are user-led and utilise digital technology as an introductory tool, allowing for convenient access and initial conversations. The day-to-day management of the charity is led by a CEO, supported by part-time workers including an admin worker, a case worker and a number of qualified therapists/counsellors across a number of disciplines. We have 4 Trustees who oversee the strategic direction and governance of the charity and make important decisions regarding the policies, objectives, and resource allocation. Almost all Trustees and staff at Controlling Chemsex have lived experience of chemsex addiction and/or addiction, alongside a mix of professional experience that supports the charity to thrive. Decisions within the charity are made collaboratively. We actively seek feedback from service users, valuing their insights and experiences. This user feedback, combined with the expertise of our professionals and the board of Trustees, helps shape the services we provide and the strategies we take forward. By incorporating diverse perspectives, we strive to meet the unique needs of our service users and ensure the relevance and effectiveness of our support. The activities and services offered by Controlling Chemsex CIO are constantly evolving to meet the changing landscape of chemsex addiction. We work in partnership with other organisations and the VCSE sector to provide education and support. Collaboration enables us to leverage shared resources, expertise, and networks, maximising our impact and reach. Through community engagement and with other stakeholders, we stay informed about emerging issues and trends related to chemsex, ensuring that our interventions remain effective and up-to-date.
